A lift is on the ground floor. There are 4 people in the lift including me.
When the lift reaches 1st floor, 1 person gets out 3 people get in.
The lift goes up to the second floor, 2 people get out 6 people get in.
It then goes up to the next floor up, no-one gets out but 12 people get in. Halfway up to the next floor up the lift cable snaps, it crashes to the floor. Everyone dies in the lift.
How did I survive?
I'm posting one puzzle, riddle, math, or statistical problem a day. Try to answer each one and post your answers in the comments section. I'll post the answer the next day. Even if you have the same answer as someone else, feel free to put up your answer, too!

You were one of the people who got out.

But then how would I know how many people got in or out on other floors?
ReplyDeleteYou got off at a previous floor. The reason you know how many people got on at the fourth floor is that you could've found out later how many people were on the elevator when the cable snapped. You watch the news, righ? ;-)
ReplyDeleteHahaha nice!
DeleteIts only possible if i saw the faces of people who died in the news and i recognize them or else i wouldn't know that no one got out of elevator on the last floor before accident.
DeleteIt says "everyone died in the lift" and not "everyone in the lift died", which are two different things. He could be one of the survivors.
ReplyDeleteBasically, those theories are correct. "I" got out on the second floor with another person. Then I noticed how many people got in after I left. Then once I heard about the accident, they said how many people were in the elevator. So I deduced the events of the next floor based on the number of people.
ReplyDeleteI exited the lift on the ground floor
ReplyDeleteIs my name "no-one"?? In that case i get out at the third floor and I see 12 people get in. In that way, i survive the accident.
ReplyDeletePlease post the answer Mike
You got off on the second floor. You deduced that nobody got off on the third floor because you noticed that nobody in the elevator had pushed the button for that floor. You read about how many people died and could calculate how many people got on.
ReplyDeletegreat thinking thats the answer i guess
DeleteWell idk but im pretty sure his name had to be "noone"
