I'm posting one puzzle, riddle, math, or statistical problem a day. Try to answer each one and post your answers in the comments section. I'll post the answer the next day. Even if you have the same answer as someone else, feel free to put up your answer, too!

Here Lies a Special Word
What word begins with 'h', ends with 'n', contains six letters, and contains eight words besides itself without transposing a single letter?

HAPPEN? Stretching things a bit here, but it contains:
ReplyDeleteHA
PP (pianissimo in music - a word?)
EN
PEN
APP
APPEN (a Yorkshire phrase, as in "Appen as like as not")
PE
HAP
PPE (if you count acronyms?)
I'm going to guess "herein" except I can only find six words:
ReplyDeletehe
her
here
ere
rein
in
Oh, and of course the word "I" is in there, too. And maybe "re" is a word?
ReplyDeleteYou're right, it has to be HEREIN:
ReplyDeletehe
her
here
ere
rein
in
I
re
Herein is the special word. The eight words were spelled out by anonymous and tabitha:
ReplyDeletehe
her
here
ere
re
rein
I
in
But, just let me say, anytime you can throw in a Yorkshire phrase, you've got my vote!
