I am strongest when you see me as round, but I am often viewed in other forms. I lift and drop the sea with my tremendous strength, and a man with a name like 'powerful bicep' was the first to tread on me.
What am I?
I'm posting one puzzle, riddle, math, or statistical problem a day. Try to answer each one and post your answers in the comments section. I'll post the answer the next day. Even if you have the same answer as someone else, feel free to put up your answer, too!

The moon.
ReplyDeleteI finally know an answer!
ReplyDeleteMOON.
obviously the moon
ReplyDeleteMOON!
ReplyDeletelloer, maan, lune, mond, luna, or in English: Moon!
ReplyDeleteI'm rather pleased as I got this one on the first line ;)
Can anyone guess what languages all those are in?
I'm so glad to see this blog back up and running! Hope you had a good holiday, Mike.
ReplyDeleteYup, the moon. Bookish, I know the second word in that list is Afrikaans, but maybe also Dutch?
The moon! Yay, I finally got one of these!
ReplyDeleteBookish, the fourth is in german (Mond). I also think that "luna" is in spanish, isn't it.
ReplyDeleteI am the only one who came up with a different answer haha, I guessed the wind, I mean the wind makes waves "lifts and drops the sea" and it is strongest when round, such as a hurricane, I was confused by that bicept guy but now I get it, Armstrong, hahaha, never would have thought of that. I was somehow thinking that name referred to whatever that guys name was who was a fictional character who rode tornados.
ReplyDeletei hav a doubt..pl any 1 make me clear!! how ll the moon lift and drop the sea??
ReplyDeletelloer(Welsh), maan(Dutch, or as Charli pointed out, Afrikaans. Aren't the two related?), lune (French), mond (German [Good job, Biller25!]), and luna (Spanish or Latin).
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, the moon's gravity helps create the tides of the ocean, thus lifting and dropping the sea. You can read more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon#Orbit_and_relationship_to_Earth
The moon was the answer I was going for... or luna, or lune, or mond....:-)
ReplyDeletei have no idea!
