Read the sentence below and count the F's in that sentence. Count them ONLY ONCE. Do not go back and count them again. There is no trick to this, other than in your own mind.
FINISHED FILES ARE THE RE-
SULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTIF-
IC STUDY COMBINED WITH
THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS.
I'm posting one puzzle, riddle, math, or statistical problem a day. Try to answer each one and post your answers in the comments section. I'll post the answer the next day. Even if you have the same answer as someone else, feel free to put up your answer, too!

ReplyDeletesame here.
ReplyDeleteare we not supposed to
notice the "of"s or something?
I left out both f's in the two of's. oops.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention that 'of' is the only word in the English language where the "f" is pronounced like a "V". That's probably why not many people notice all 5 f's the first time in that sentence.
ReplyDeleteok, I come up with 6: Finished, files, of, of, scientific, of.
ReplyDeleteyou guys saying 5 are hilarious.
ReplyDeleteBTW Mike this is a repeat again.
Is it? Oops. I can't seem to find the old one, though.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I saw this one. There used to be another one where you would ignore certain words. That is the one he might be referring to.
ReplyDeleteSix is the answer. It's strange how we skip right over those of's even when we're looking carefully.
ReplyDeleteBTW, the first time I tried this one I only got three.
Read it backwards.
ReplyDeleteReading it backwards makes it a lot easier to see those 'of' words. I guess it just forces your brain to think more about what it's seeing.
