There is a common English word that is nine letters long. Each time you remove a letter from it, it still remains an English word - from nine letters right down to a single letter. What is the original word, and what are the words that it becomes after removing one letter at a time?

Both words start with an S and end with ing. Which means the four letter word is sing. You can then remove the g to make sin, remove the s to make in, and remove the n to make I.
ReplyDeletesing-sin-in-I.
hmmm...trying to stump us today, are you?
ReplyDeleteI'm always trying to stump you! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI just rarely succeed.

ReplyDeletemusing using sing sin in I
7 letters long
Great job Rachele! This was definitely a harder question. My answers were:
ReplyDeletesnowing - sowing - swing - sing - sin - in - I
and
startling - starting - staring - string - sting - sing - sin - in - I
Also, it works with...
ReplyDeletesingers - singer - singe - sing - sin - in - I
...which I think is elegant, as it's only taking from one end or the other of the word.
